Justin Drew Bieber, otherwise known as KidRahl on Youtube, is a talented 11-year-old from Canada. He is probably most known for his rendition of Chris Brown’s “Someday at Christmas” which fans have commented as sounding like Michael Jackson. Among his other popular videos is him flirting with Esmee Denters with a sweet serenade.
Justin has a nice, clear tone with that extra special crisp to it. Justin lists his musical influences as Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, and Boyz II Men. One has to wonder, does Justin Timberlake’s Production company have his eyes on this young talent?
Note: His popularity has caused several “fake justins” to appear on Youtube so make sure fans out there go to his official Youtube and MySpace sites.
Many thanks to several of his fans for the nomination, most notably Jenna, Chaos31, Amy4U, and Meeky.
SonicBirds is properly of the coolest ideas yet…an idea that provides artists with exposure. Artists signing up get the opportunity to be alerted of music promoters in need of some serious music talent. Heck, let the website itself tell you what it does:
Sonicbids is an online matchmaking site for bands and people who book or license music. We count over 130,000 musicians and more than 10,000 promoters among our members, and they represent over 100 countries across the world. At any given time, we have more than 1,000 open gig listings for everything from festivals and club dates to songwriting contests and licensing opportunities.
Kiersten is an unsigned artist that has a voice to die for. Her covers and originals are catchy and makes you just want to sit back and chill. Rolling Stones magazine wrote about her cover of KT Tunstall’s Stoppin’ the Love in their October 2007 magazine, which is by far her most popular video on Youtube. She has a perfect tone coupled with a very angelic sounding voice.
There has been requests by readers to feature video cuts by the Youtube community. Expression is shown through the vocal abilities of some of the artists on Youtube while others express themselves via video footage from movies or shows. So ontohollywood will also be accepting proposals for the best video cuts that expresses the meaning of a song…you know, the ones where you watch the video and it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Consider it as featuring the very best untapped producers.
With that said, here is the very first submitted video which is produced by LondonGirl27: Ugly Betty - What Makes you Different. She writes:
This is a B&B (Daniel & Betty) video set to “What Makes You Different” by The Backstreet Boys.
As Daniel and Betty spend time together on the bridge, Daniel quietly ponders what makes her special, and ultimately, beautiful. his video contains footage from Episodes 1 - 15 only
What I like about this video: I think that we can all identify with “Ugly Betty” at one time or the other, feeling like an outkast or different. The best advice I’ve received was from a very successful lawyer who said “If God wanted us to be so alike then why did he make us all so different?”
So be proud of your talent, interest, the way you look, and who you are because after all, what makes you different makes you beautiful. It’s also what makes you stand out from the millions of people out there.
Youtube’s unsigned talent at its finest and all the way from Japan - TomtheSinger. Tom is a talented singer, piano player, and songwriter who sings both in English as well as Japanese.
Amy Benjamin is a multi-talented Youtubian from Australia. Not only is she a singer/songwriter, she is also a make-up artist. Her music has a very angelic tune to it. One of her more popular songs is called “Need You,” a song she wrote for a friend who was diagnosed with HIV+ at the age of 20 years old.
There’s been a lot of inquiry as to how the Youtube Stars are selected. Besides nominations from the Youtube community, there are certain other star quality attributes we look for:
Leah Beabout:
The artist has a carefree persona, original, and I get the sense they already feel famous. They aren’t tailoring their craft for the audience. They just feel good doing what they’re doing.
Tips: I like original songs, but…if you are covering a tune, make the song your own! If you want to improvise or change a well-known song to suit your style, or even cross genres (singing a rock or country song in a soulful way or vice versa) GO FOR IT! Originality catches my ear!
Michelle Nguyen:
I look for artists who make each song their own and really have fun singing it. I also look for how their fans are responding to their singing or how nominators are complimenting them. A major part of being an artist is not just being able to sing but remembering that your fans are the ones who you’re singing to. Absolutely no Divas!
Tips: Use a good microphone. It’s frustrating to listen to someone sing with a lot of static or the volume is turned down too low. Talk less sing more. A minute of blabbing and introducing yourself really makes me want to skip to another video
Tara is a music talent from Oberlin, Ohio who has a voice that sounds like a young Whitney Houston. According to Tara’s MySpace, she “has worked with multi-platinum recording artists Juvenile, Young Buck and the late Soulja Slim, for whom she sang background vocals on their 2003 UTP Compilation album.” She describes her music as “urban alternative infused with soul, classical, and hip-hop. Besides her vocal talents is her ability to not only play the piano, but the guitar as well.
Awhile back, I wrote about Deezer, a music site that lets you find any song and add it to a playlist where you can listen to the full track. Up pops a snazzy new engine called SongBird. It’s getting featured not because of its cool logo or spiffy t-shirts, but rather for its concept of “desktop media mashed-up with the Web.” What the heck does that mean?
It plays your music while playing the web using FireFox. Lets say you stumble upon a cool new song on a blog or website, SongBird will let you drag the midi into your SongBird “media library” so that you can play it anytime you wish. Along with this feature is the ability to search for new music.
Because it’s an opensource platform, users can be guaranteed constant innovative additions to this desktop platform. Genius idea? I think so too but you’d expect such a great invention from the same developers of Winamp and Yahoo! Music engine.
