SongBird nesting with music online

songbird2.jpgAwhile back, I wrote about Deezer, a music site that lets you find any song and add it to a playlist where you can listen to the full track. Up pops a snazzy new engine called SongBird. It’s getting featured not because of its cool logo or spiffy t-shirts, but rather for its concept of “desktop media mashed-up with the Web.” What the heck does that mean?

It plays your music while playing the web using FireFox. Lets say you stumble upon a cool new song on a blog or website, SongBird will let you drag the midi into your SongBird “media library” so that you can play it anytime you wish. Along with this feature is the ability to search for new music.

Because it’s an opensource platform, users can be guaranteed constant innovative additions to this desktop platform. Genius idea? I think so too but you’d expect such a great invention from the same developers of Winamp and Yahoo! Music engine.
