How do you select Youtube Stars?

star.jpgThere’s been a lot of inquiry as to how the Youtube Stars are selected. Besides nominations from the Youtube community, there are certain other star quality attributes we look for:

Leah Beabout:

The artist has a carefree persona, original, and I get the sense they already feel famous. They aren’t tailoring their craft for the audience. They just feel good doing what they’re doing.

Tips: I like original songs, but…if you are covering a tune, make the song your own! If you want to improvise or change a well-known song to suit your style, or even cross genres (singing a rock or country song in a soulful way or vice versa) GO FOR IT! Originality catches my ear!
Michelle Nguyen:

I look for artists who make each song their own and really have fun singing it. I also look for how their fans are responding to their singing or how nominators are complimenting them. A major part of being an artist is not just being able to sing but remembering that your fans are the ones who you’re singing to. Absolutely no Divas!

Tips: Use a good microphone. It’s frustrating to listen to someone sing with a lot of static or the volume is turned down too low. Talk less sing more. A minute of blabbing and introducing yourself really makes me want to skip to another video ;)
