YG Entertainment: What is it?

I’ve been getting questions about YG Singers and what YG is. YG Entertainment is a music label from Korea. You can pretty much say that the words “Pop, R&B” and “YG” goes together. If yg.jpgan artist is “training” with YG, it’s pretty much a given that he/she will become a huge hit in Korea. YG has a reputation for being an incubator for Korean superstars. During “incubation,” the stars are called “trainees” where they are perfected in their vocals. Often, the trainee’s name is kept a secret but sometimes video leaks occur and the trainee’s name is revealed. Typical trainees may take 5+ years before they are officially launched. When an artist is almost ready to launch, there are pre-release videos of the artist’s singing ability to obtain fans’ response of the talent in question. Because trainees are not allowed to launch unless the label believes that they are perfect, some leave the label and strike out on their own due to the desire to launch early.

To be considered for the “YG Family”, demo tapes must be sent. For Korean Americans interested in becoming a star in Korea but have no access to YG, Brosent is a US company that trains you and then sends you to Korea.

You can get a feel of how hard these trainees work to get launched by watching some of the leaked talent: former trainee Kim May Doni and another trainee who is in stealth mode. Much thanks to Lee Gong Min for the inside information.

Other related:
From a YG choreographer:

“YG is pretty strict not like strict in a bad way but it is strict in a way that it wants you to improve. If they think you aren’t really trying hard or you miss dancing or vocal sessions as a trainee, they pretty much tell you to leave..they really look hard for talents. They did have an open audition in korea before but nobody made it. They don’t really require anything on facial features or looks because you can change that. The important thing is talent.”

No kidding. Everyone is friggin good who comes out of YG. There is no one in YG who sucks! I get excited when I hear there’s a new trainee..it’s like OMG a new God of singing is about to be born. We need more international coverage like this

If there was a USA “YG” they would DOMINATE the market here

their concept might not work here. Talent here can be produced with digital music and looks takes to long to fix

In the US, looks come first and then talent . An example - Britney Spears

Neh..that comment about Britney Spears…was mean.
    She has a good voice.

But, ya its somewhat true of how beauty comes first.
But either way YG’s Concept of Music would Defintely work here in the U.S! =D YG’s music and Western music are not different. =D wooot~ goo YG Family!!

I guess you don’t have to be Korean. Just know korean lol. If you learn to be fluent, and have really goood vocals or dance, sure you can go ^^

I there any age limit on their auditions? If I am 24years old or 25years, will they accept that age also to auditions. If I really got talent will they accept me? I guess sandara park was accepted she’ll turn 24 this year but I need some informations about their requirements for auditions like do they care about age and even other asians who want to audition in yg entertainment. Please if there is someone who can help me answer my questions….I really want to know. Hope you can inform me in my e-mail address also the details. Thank you very much.

OMFG. NO ONE GOT IN???? @____@ YG IS SO OMFG
STRICT I MEAN people there are good but damn they all
sound all alike as in the girls…strong powerful voices
good dancers…blah blah blah but Sandara Park
isn’t all that her talent is in such a low rank…how
did she get in? >___< no fair…but than again YG
is kinda scary WOAH~ THE MOTIVATION of those
singers…5 plus years? Oh boy…need to do some
    more training XD

    “but Sandara Park

    did she get in?”

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. She can’t even sing. Okay, maybe she can dance. But what, another So hee? I’m not trying to sound harsh. It’s the truth. But really, Sandara can’t sing. But she’s REALLY PRETTY, so I’m doubting that YG looks at only talent and not looks.

Wow, Im looking forward to auditioning for Yg next year but do i have to know korean? I’m a koean american but I hardly know much. Can’t they just teach me? People say i sing very well and i want to try out, im not much of a good dancer but i still have trouble understanding how to audition from here in California. I also think my voice might sound retarded if it was taped by a stpid camera or something. I also don’t have the most powerful voice yet, like i cant reach very high notes so do they train for that too? what i just want to know is how to audition from the u.s. and what do they train us to do.

Okay I’m not Korean, but I know how to sing, dance, host, and act. My parent are big time supporter. But education is what they want me to go for first. I just turn 18 this august, been singing and acting when I was five years old. I need advice you guys. Go for my education then go for singing. Or go for singing then later in life education.

Umm if you are atleast an asian you can try out for yg but theyll have to give you good Training Fast if your interesterd in Yg but If i were you and you say what you really say you are, Id go for singing. Eduacation is nothing really important, its just when you go to Universities and stuff its just absolute assurance that you won’t go poor. If you become a singer you’ll get all the fame maybe and not be like everyone else who just goes to school and become ordinary– BORING!! anyways its just my opinion you control your life, you have your own power

Yo, I’m interested in joining Yg as well, my only talent is singing though, Im trying to learn how to dance too. I heard SM entertainment treats their performers like crap and they have all the profit instead of those who work for them more than they do. Anyways I’m in America and I was hoping to audition in a good record label like yg. The thing is, I would like to know more about YG and how they work and how they treat their people. So if anyone can tell me plz post a comment in this site.

Does YG ever come to the states? Do they audition them? Because many talented people come from here in the U.S. you know like Brian from FTTS, Tiffany of SNSD, Micky from DBSK. How well talented do you have to be to join?
